One of the largest events by participation on the tennis calendar, the Exhibition St Cup is open handicap singles and doubles. Come and play against the best players in the Club, Frank, Chappy and JWC are all in the draw along with many other members. There will be first round matches in front of a raucous crowd on Friday night so sign up, get involved and come and support all the players.

The club women's doubles handicap championship is open to all women members. Come in, join the tennis and have a fun day with your fellow members.
A bylaw in 1932 for the first time allowed RMTC membership to women to play squash. This tournament is named after one of the first women Club members who played squash in the 1930s. The actual trophy was originally won by Joan (pictured right) and presented by a Colonel Tolhurst for the Club's women's squash competition.
A special thank-you to David Hayne, whose mother this tournament is named after.

International Tennis Day - a day to celebrate real tennis / court tennis / jeu de paume

Since 2014, International Tennis Day has been the annual celebration in our game of tennis — real tennis, court tennis, jeu de paume.
So book some court time, snag a playing buddy, and after your game post a photo on social media using the hashtag #ITENNISDAY (on Instagram, Facebook...). Clubs will be participating across Australia, France, UK and USA.
June 20 was chosen as it falls on the anniversary of the Tennis Court Oath, on 20 June 1789 by nearly 600 people at a tennis court near the Palace of Versailles and a pivotal event at the start of the French Revolution.

The ladies equivalent of the Percy Finch Racket, named after former World Champion Judith Clarke and played on an annual basis between Hobart and Melbourne. First introduced in 1992.
Judith Clarke was Australia’s first real tennis world champion (1985 & 1987) - initially playing at Hobart with Barry Toates and then at RMTC from 1973 with Lesley Ronaldson.

J.B. Box Trophy (Invitational)
Royal Melbourne Tennis Club | Sat, 5th Dec | 9:00 am
Open to legal professionals. The J. B. Box Trophy is the annual tournament between Barristers and Solicitors and is named after the Club's first President John Burnett Box, who was a Victorian County Court judge (when he wasn't on the tennis court - he was the Club's Gold Racket champion for the first 13 years).
In 1881, Messrs J. B. Box, D. Campbell, F. Murphy, R. Cornish & R. Travers decided to start a real tennis club and in 1882 the Melbourne Tennis Club opened at 345 Exhibition Street. J. B. Box would continue as President for the Club’s first 36 years.

The perpetual trophy was discovered at Leonard Joel Auctions and now features actual sandstone (in the base) from the old Exhibition Street court. It is named after Jeff Bird, held to be the monocular world champion and a man with “an almost mystical knack of winning these tournaments.” To be presented by Elaine Bird (if possible) at breakfast after tennis
