International Women’s Day Tournament - Sun 8 March

Thursday, 2nd Apr

The International Women’s Day tournament had a good turnout with 8 women, including the Pro Shop’s very own Kate Leeming, on court in a mixed pairing competition which meant players played with a different partner each set. Percy Finch Racket & PF2 - Fri. 6 ~ Mon. 9 March

Thursday, 2nd Apr

Two teams of players arrived from Hobart ready to tackle the RMTC in the Percy Finch, a tournament that has been played between Melbourne and Hobart for decades. With matches starting on Friday night and running the way through until Monday afternoon it was a long weekend of tennis and fully justified its billing as one of the most tightly fought rivalries in tennis. Many of the matches across the weekend were close, with sets and matches decided by a few points either way.

WELCOME TO REAL TENNIS

Real tennis is a high strategy racket sport with a pedigree that can be traced back to the twelfth century. It is the original racket game from which are descended most modern racket games including lawn tennis (now called tennis) and squash.

Real tennis is a unique game which provides:

  • significant physical and technical challenges for all levels of player
  • a demanding test of skill, agility, court craft and strategy
  • a handicapping system that allows players of varied ability, age and experience to compete on equal terms.

Real tennis is played by sports enthusiasts of all ages and levels. Around the world you might call the game different things – ‘real’ tennis in Australia and Britain, ‘court’ tennis in the US, and ‘jeu de paume’ in France – to players, it is simply ‘tennis’.
