Ballarat Tennis Club hosted an excellent weekend of handicap doubles tennis. On Saturday May 31st the RMTC Women competed against the BTC Ladies in the Larwood Cup. On Sunday June 1st the RMTC Men faced the BTC Men in the Eureka Cup.

Jonathan Sear ran another excellent tournament for Empire Day with all 15 players who signed up arriving for play. Rose Blanden was the victorious 3rd-place getter this year.

Congratulations to those who were presented with prizes at the AGM. Jim Ilgoutz was presented with the Best First Year Player award while Thomas McNamara was presented with the Most Improved Player award. There were also two Life Memberships awarded, to Andrew Buckle (pictured left) and Lesley Ronaldson. Finally, Head Professional Frank Filippelli (pictured right) was presented with a commemoration of his 20 years of service.

A team of players made the trek up to Romsey to play against the MCCRTS. The new owners at Romsey were very hospitable to both teams and the tennis was willing making a great day for all. In the end the MCCRTS won the day, 6 sets to 5!

We had a big group of players turn out for the Young Members bring a friend tournament. There were so many friends brought that we needed extra young members to play with them. It was a fun afternoon with lots of interesting shots played! Many thanks to Joseph Filippelli for organising snacks for the afternoon and dinner in the evening.

It was a great weekend of tennis full of the agony and ecstasy of a handicap tennis tournament. It started on Friday evening with a magnificent feast created by Lizzie Brown to supplement a full board of matches. Saturday's singles continued with many close games, and some not so close ones.
