Message from the President: RMTC - The traditions continue

Dear Members
Approaching a year on from the RMTC’s spectacular celebration of 50 years in Richmond, and following the May 2025 AGM, we are building up to welcome a large number of visitors to the Boomerang Cup and Australian Open in January, and then the World Masters in April.

It is events like these that the RMTC does well, thanks to our Pro team, members, and facilities. The tradition of RMTC hospitality continues, as we see old friends again, and our newer members experience the international flavour, competition and fellowship of the game.

The RMTC has been a special place for generations, with a friendly family atmosphere, on the tennis courts and in the Clubrooms, across age, sex and background. Key to this is enjoying ourselves, with courtesy and decorum, maintaining social conviviality, sportsmanship, polite language, and being mindful of others, so all members feel comfortable and part of conversations.

The vast majority of members innately understand the privileges and responsibilities of being an RMTC member. It is important that we preserve these standards, and I encourage you read the Club’s policies, available on the RMTC website, from the Pro Shop, and at the following links:

During all forms of play, including tournaments, and off the court, members must maintain the highest standards of behaviour and etiquette, avoiding acts that may diminish respect for other persons and the game.

Our established customs on court include the wearing of predominantly white clothing; ball collection; receiver’s priority at change of ends; acknowledgement of good play; spectators being quiet during play; and collecting rackets along the side galleries only when those on court are changing ends, or otherwise give permission. Protective eyewear is recommended.

Off the court, dress standards apply, as does the prohibition of mobile phone calls; responsible consumption of alcohol; keeping accounts in credit; an honour bar; clearing away your glassware and kit; and turning off lights, as if it is your home.

The Committee welcomes suggestions from members on maintaining and improving the amenity and operations of the Club. We also encourage you to discuss any concerns with the President (Jonathan Buckley) or the Vice President (Lisa Galbraith).

Best wishes
Jonathan Buckley
